When the opportunity is afforded me to speak to physicians in a communal setting, at the end of my comments invariably someone will, with a cracked smile ask, “Do you have any good news for us?” The general response from the other listeners in the audience is a half-hearted chuckle. The reality is, there is little good news for physicians and their practices…
BUT...
there is some
good news. It centers upon a topic
mentioned in the last post that dealt with Patient Centered Medical Homes
(PCMH). PCMH is an opportunity for
primary care physicians, including family doctors, pediatricians and
internists, to provide greater value to their patients, enhance the work life
balance, and receive greater recompense for the care you
provide. I know, it sounds too good to be
true. PCMH will not work for every
practice, nor is it a fit for every physician.
You have the choice to either disregard this post and stop reading, or
do a little research by accessing the below to see if it is a fit for you.
The SCMA is
rolling out a strategic plan for physicians in South Carolina to assist them in
achieving the PCMH recognition. Be on
the lookout for it soon. In addition, please contact the SCMA if you have an
interest in pursuing further what PCMH can do for your practice. For specialists, the SCMA is working on developing a similar effort for you as
well.
